Iconic Springmaid Smocked cotton bathing suit. By Cole of California. Light wear, very good condition, elastic still strong.

This fabric was produced by Spring Mills out of Lancaster SC. The founder, Elliott Springs (pictured above in a shirt of the same fabric) liked to challenge polite society and came up with controversial ads to promote their products, mostly bedsheets and underwear. These ads (shown above) became so well known that the mills began producing fabric based on them in a couple of designs and color ways. This suit is one of those examples.
